Satan in the Old Rite Temple

In the book, Maxwell Johnson "Baptismal Liturgy Documents," we find that when some early Christians were the rites of initiation not only teaches the history of creation, but had a confrontation with a snake named Satan. The initiates were told during this ritual to consider the opponent to be in their immediate presence to tell him to "come." Therefore, a victory was achieved in the initiative from the enemy.

scholar Matthew Brown of the temples we learned: The renunciation of Satan and everything connected with it is a common element in the earliest texts of Christian initiation (see Edward Yarnold, imposing rites of initiation, 17-18, 178).

In some texts it is clear that Satan is considered to be present when the waiver was produced (see Riley, Christian Initiation, 42-43, 49). In a series of introductory texts, states that the candidate raises his hand to renounce Satan (see Vellios, ed., Studies on Syrian baptismal rites, 93). (Matthew B.
